From Survival to Support: How the Community Care Center is Helping Raju Move Forward
Raju, 24, spent most of his life on the streets near Sealdah Railway Station. After losing his father and being abandoned by his mother, who struggled with poverty and addiction, he had no access to school or care. Illiterate and alone, he grew up highly vulnerable.
Life on the streets exposed Raju to constant hardship. He became addicted to inhaling addictive substances and smoking, putting his health at serious risk. With no education, family, or social support, his chances of building a stable future seemed impossible.
During a street outreach program in Kolkata, Community Care Center (CCC) staff met Raju and began building trust through regular visits and conversations. Recognising his resilience, they connected him to rehabilitation support. Today, Raju receives counselling, hygiene care, nutritious meals, and consistent mentoring. These services have given him the first sense of stability in his life.
Raju is now preparing to access de-addiction services, basic literacy education, and vocational training. His progress shows how community outreach and rehabilitation programs can transform the lives of street children and homeless youth in Kolkata. With continued support, Raju has the chance to move beyond survival toward dignity, recovery, and purpose.
