A Brighter Path Forward: Avik’s Story
Nine-year-old Avik lives in Bikramgarh, Jadavpur, with his mother and younger sister. After losing his father in October 2023, when his sister was just a year old, the family found themselves in deep emotional and financial crisis. With no stable income and two children to care for, Avik’s mother has had to rely on occasional help from relatives and kind-hearted neighbours.
Without academic support at home, Avik struggled in school. When he joined the Ashar Kiron Project on August 29, 2024, still in Class 2, his emotional distress was already evident. Teachers observed disruptive behaviour, defiance, and difficulty following instructions. His ability to focus on learning was deeply affected by grief and the constant uncertainty in his home life.
Recognising his potential, the Ashar Kiron team stepped in with structured routines, patient mentoring, and regular counselling sessions. They offered more than just academic support. They provided community care and emotional stability as part of a broader commitment to holistic child development.
Within a few months, a transformation began. Avik started responding positively to consistent encouragement and guidance. Now in Class 3, he shows a growing interest in learning, respects his peers and teachers, and is eager to participate in classroom activities. He performed well in his final Class 2 examinations and continues to progress steadily.
Avik’s story is a testament to the power of timely intervention and support through a child welfare project. Through compassion, structure, and care, the Ashar Kiron Project helped him rediscover confidence and joy in learning.
By investing in children like Avik, the Ashar Kiron Project not only nurtures individual growth but also strengthens the well-being of families and communities.
