New Market Community Development Project

The New Market Community Development Project, launched in June 1992, focuses on improving the living conditions of a Dalit (historically marginalized and oppressed caste) community living in a slum in South Kolkata. Many of these individuals were employed as municipal sanitation workers and faced severe social discrimination, addiction, domestic violence, and poor hygiene.

Our intervention provided essential support and improved their living standards ensuring access to basic amenities like clean water and sanitation.

The project provides non-formal education for children, adult literacy classes, and healthcare services.

Additional efforts focus on skill training, community awareness programs, and creating income-generation opportunities. The project promotes hygiene and raises awareness about substance abuse and domestic violence.
